Architect: IRC Consulting

A two story commercial office building for a multi-disciplinary engineering company, GHD Orewa is the first Green Star NZ Certified building to be built in the Rodney District. Right through the construction process, Eagle & Franich were an integral part of managing this sustainability conscious project.

The exterior cladding features honed and sealed stack bonded concrete block with lightweight composite Alucobond infill panels and double glazed aluminium joinery. A cantilevered steel and frameless glass canopy is mounted over the entry doors, demarcating the main entrance while acting as a shading device.

The structural construction materials are featured as interior finishes in the form of the concrete polished floors and honed concrete block walls adjacent to the glazed stairwell. Designed to be as energy and water efficient as possible, sustainable systems are incorporated throughout the building. Water for the building is heated via roof mounted solar collectors and harvested rainwater is used throughout the building for toilet flushing.
