Architect: Architex New Zealand

A change in business use and necessary seismic strengthening prompted the owners to completely refurbish this inner city character building. Eagle & Franich stripped out the existing building interior and constructed new boutique retail spaces on ground floor level, with offices on the first and second floors.

A new suspended steel and frosted glass entry canopy was installed at street level. Eagle & Franich refurbished and painted the existing timber windows, undertook remedial repairs to the roof, and painted the entire front brickwork facade. A dark stained timber staircase was built through the centre of the building and new frameless glass automatic sliding doors were installed at the entry. Rising through the full height of the building interior, the stairwell leads up to the second level open plan office space. The existing timber roof trusses were cleaned and painted, the ceiling insulated, lined and new skylights installed. The office spaces feature the interior face of the existing brick walls exposed and ground back.
